Is it wise to save money and fly to Miami for a breast augmentation if I live in Connecticut?

It is common to travel long distances for just the right surgeon.  But this decision should be based on your confidence in the surgeon to give you the results you desire while keeping you safe, not based on who has the cheapest price tag.  A good price can be tempting, but be sure you are not compromising quality. 

This is a great question! The first stage of booking your breast augmentation consultations should be online research for experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. This surgeon can be in your area or outside of your area. You should ONLY consult with a board certified plastic surgeon for this procedure, as they are the most qualified surgeons to perform breast augmentations. When you are researching a surgeon online here are a few things you should look for:
Surgeon's education and credentialsBefore & after pictures (make sure there are plenty of before and after pics on the surgeon's website so you get a good idea of their work)Reviews from other patients (make sure you find plenty very positive reviews about the surgeon on Yelp, RealSelf, Google, etc). Once you have found some qualified surgeons online, schedule consultations with 2 or 3 of them. When you meet the plastic surgeon in person you should feel very comfortable and confident with the surgeon. Make sure they let you ask all of your questions and are in fact listening to what YOU want. After meeting with a couple surgeons you will most likely know right away which surgeon is the best to perform your surgery. Good luck!
 

Cheaper may not be better...what will you do for your follow up visits and if you have a complication? In the future if you need a revision will you continue to fly back and forth? Be sure to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Good luck.

Basing a decision on price alone is often dangerous. Having breast augmentation involves not only the surgery but appropriate follow up visits. Depending on how a patient heals, some patients need to be seen more than others and your plan would likely make that difficult.

Unless you have family to stay with, I always recommend you have surgery locally. This makes pre and post op visits much easier especially if close follow up with your plastic surgeon is needed.Cost alone should not be the determining factor. You need to feel comfortable with your plastic surgeon.

best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  I always advise patients to choose your surgeon based on quality and not just pricing.  It is also a good idea to choose a surgeon close to you, if you can find a good surgeon.   
It is very important that you thoroughly research
your surgeon before committing to surgery. It is a good idea to research your
surgeon's educational background, online reviews, before & after pictures,
and speak with anyone who you may know who has had surgery with that surgeon.
During your consultation, make sure that you don't feel rushed and make sure
that you have adequate time with your surgeon and not just their patient
coordinator or nurses. If the majority of your consultation is spent with
someone other than the surgeon, this is usually not a good sign. The most
important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend
that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified expert surgeon who
can evaluate you in person.

Dear truthfully_exquisite,Finding the right Dr. is extremely challenging especially with the number of online platforms and resources available. There a lot of great Dr's available. Definitely check to make sure your choice specializes in the procedure you want and spend the time to read through patient testimonials.

Breast augmentation is a very popular procedure and patient satisfaction rates tend by quite high.  I can see why some patients might be tempted to select the surgeon with competitive prices.  It is hard to wait and be patient.  Still, I think it is best to find someone near you, or at least in driving distance.  I typically see my patients back for a number of follow up visits even if everything goes perfectly.  If you were were to have a complication, the proper management might be challenging.  You would likely then need to see someone locally. In the end, it is better to make your choice based on experience, reputation, and your personal interaction with the office.  

'Wise' is something that surgeons will tell you generally only appears in hindsight. I would not use that word, but would say such a decision is a calculated risk. Some people are comfortable with more risk, with higher consequences, than others.
