Is it normal to feel the implant inside the breast after an augmentation?

I had 350cc Ideal implant BA a year ago. Implants were placed under the muscle. They look great but I can clearly feel the implants along the base of my breasts. Are most women able to feel their implants? Can anything be done to make them feel more real?

Many patients are able to feel the outline of their implants underneath their breasts, particularly if you’re thinner or have less of your own natural breast tissue. If you aren’t experiencing any problems, such as constriction or discomfort, then this is normal.

Hi.  Yes, many women can feel the implants at the bottom part of the breast.  This is because there is no muscle covering the implants in this location, so there is less of your body covering the implants.  As long as you are not having pain or noticing a difference in appearance, it is usually not an issue that requires any treatment.  If you have any concerns about it, you can have your PS do a quick exam to make sure everything is normal.

HI bebe,If you are thin, it can be normal to feel the implants beneath the skin especially in the lower outer pole of the breast where there is no muscle.There is not too much to do about it if you are thin in this area. Some  surgeons might recommend fat injections or an acellular dermal matrix, but this would mean a return to the OR and/or possible other complications might occur. Do wear a good supportive bra so that the implants do not fall more beneath the muscle.Best,Dr. Christine Rodgers

especially if you are thin and have minimal breast tissue.  The Ideal implant is superior to the traditional saline implant for having less palpability but a shaped textured gel implant or newer smooth round gummy bears have  the least palpability.  If you look great as you say, try not to fret about the minor imperfections from the technology we have today.  And realize that if anyone should criticize you for that, that person doesn't belong in your life in any way!

You have a prosthesis, meaning something foreign in your body, you know your body better than any one, so you will be able to feel the implant and there is nothing you can do to avoid feeling it.Most surgeons believe that silicone implants are the most natural feel implants, so you may consider exchanging the implants for silicone gel implants

After surgery, it is not uncommon to be able to feel breast implants. 
We inform all of our patients about this potential outcome and are pleasantly surprised when this is not an issue. 
There are many factors which contribute to being able to feel your breast implants after surgery.  These include how small the breasts were before your surgery and how large the implants were in relation to the original amount of breast tissue covering them.  Weight loss or loss of breast tissue can also make the implant more palpable.
You could return to your plastic surgeon for a follow-up evaluation and discussion about your concerns.

Congratulated on your breast augmentation.  The bottom part of the implant  placed under the muscle is usually not covered by the muscle to allow the implant to improve the breast shape.  It is not unusual to be able to palpate or feel the implant at the bottom.  If you're happy with the appearance I would do nothing.  Correction would require a surgical procedure which could alter the appearance of your breasts.  Be sure to discuss  this with your plastic surgeon.
