Is consuming green tea bad after a breast augmentation?

Green tea affects clotting.  You should avoid any substance which increases the chance for bleeding prior to and after surgery.  This includes garlic, onions, ginger, alcohol, high Vit. E brown seaweed, citrus fruits.  Increased blood around breast implants has a higher chance for capsule contracture. 

 As long as you are a few days out of surgery, and are not drinking any thing in excess, I doubt that any harm will be done. Run this question by your plastic surgeon for more relevant advice. Best wishes.

Green tea as everybody has written increase the time it take one to clot. It seems to work by making your platelets less sticky. We make platelets everyday. When we take aspirin, green tea and other things the platelets are affected for their entire life span (approximately ten days). So we try  to get patients to stop these meds and herbs for ten days pre-op and at least ten days post-op.Check with your plastic surgeon for their advice. Good LuckStephen M. Green tea may increase clotting times, putting you and increased risk for bleeding, and it can interact with an abundance of medications. Please refer to the link below from the National Institutes of Health to find out more.

Green tea is felt by some to interfere with normal blood clotting in high doses, and since this is not sold as pharmaceutical, do don't really know what you are taking. If you are a couple of days out the chances of a clinical problem are rather slim. This sort of question is better directed to your surgeon.All the best.

Every board certified plastic surgeon has a list of pre-operative and post-operative instructions that they ask their patients to follow.  Contact your surgeon;s office and ask for these instructions as it is important that you follow these before and after surgery. Best oif luck!

Thank you for your question.  There is some evidence that Green tea can interfere with blood clotting.  Therefore I recommend my patients do not drink Green tea in the recovery.  After breast augmentation.  However he should ask your plastic surgeon for specific advice.
