I had a periareolar mastopexy and implants placed under the muscle about one month ago. My incisions appeared to be scabbed around the 3rd day post op but worsened over the next couple weeks to appear as if they were necrotic. I began rubbing Vaseline on them twice a day.The black turned to yellow slough and incisions dehisced. When I went back to my doctor the last time, he gave me Santyl to apply to the wounds until my incisions heal. I'm worried about infection and scarring. Please help me!
Answer: Prolonged wound healing It can take some time for a dehisced wound to fully heal, sometime longer than expected. Scars can end up being widened or raised but this can be treated with a scar revision once the scar is fully healed. This can take months before you will be ready for a scar revision. In the mean time follow your surgeon's wound care instructions.

Answer: Wound Breakdown It usually takes ones like this about 6 to 8 weeks to heal. The wound can be adequately cleaned in order for it to progress to healing. There will be some scarring that can be revised a year after complete healing

Answer: Dehiscence of breasts WIthout seeing your incisions, it is difficult to say how long it will take and what the breasts will look like. Best to follow closely with your surgeon.

Answer: Open wound after aug I agree with my colleague. I would only add if you have other issues such as smoking, please stop, this only makes things worse. If you have diabetes try to keep a very tight control. Follow your plastic surgeons instructions carefully, he / she will help you get through this little set back. Scars can also be revised, typically waiting 6-9 months. Good LuckStephen M. Davis, MD, FACSGreen Hills Plastic Sugery

Answer: Wound Opening After Donut Mastopexy + Breast Augmentation I'm sorry to hear about your wound complication. The body has an amazing ability to close a wound with a scar that is much smaller than the wound itself. If the scar is a little wide after it is completely healed, usually a scar revision can be done under local anesthesia. The biggest concern with an open wound in the presence of an augmented breast is (1) exposure of the implant and (2) infection. An open wound doesn't necessarily mean there is an infection, and good local wound care can prevent one from occurring. Signs of infection would include a foul smell, a change in color of the drainage, or if the surrounding skin becomes red and warm. Tell your surgeon if you get a fever or chills. Most importantly, keep in close contact with your surgeon so that he/she can treat you appropriately with any change in your condition.Dealing with a complication can be discouraging and depressing, which is a normal reaction. Look to the doctor and the staff for guidance, support, and a time frame. Sometimes knowing a wound may take two months to heal, for example, can make those two months much more tolerable than having no idea when the endpoint is. Good luck!
