Is numbness and tightness typical after after a lower face and neck lift? How long will this last?

Numbness or muscle weakness following a #facelift is not uncommon.  When the skin is separated from the underlying tissues during #surgery, small sensory nerves are cut. Varying degrees of #numbness will be present after surgery and will improve gradually as the nerves reconnect to the skin. This process can take from 2-6 months for face, #neck and cheeks, and to 9-12 months for the forehead and scalp. Muscle #weakness may also be present around the mouth especially if liposuction is used. This typically recovers fully in the months after surgery.
As the nerves regenerate, the itching, burning, tingling and shooting #sensations will occur. Ice, moisturizers and gentle #massaging are helpful during this phase of the #healing process. Frequently there is a tight feeling in the neck, jawline and cheek after a facelift. During surgery, not only the skin but the underlying muscles are tightened to create a better and longer lasting result. Additionally, the #swelling will move downward in the first week and the neck will feel even tighter. Do not be alarmed: the sensation will decrease during the first month. 
Some degree of firmness or lumpiness under the skin is normal after surgery and will resolve with time. Local #massage of the areas may accelerate the resolution of this problem, which normally takes 2-4 months to disappear completely.If you have certain concerns about the procedures and #healing process, it is recommended to call your board-certified surgeon or their medical staff and discuss those #concerns.

Everything you describe is normal following these procedures except possibly the inability to pronounce certain things. Your plastic surgeon can let you know if this is normal based on his exam.Numbness resolves in the first yearTightness much sooner usually in a few months

on the surgical technique used and the healing process of each patient. Usually
the tightness improves faster than the numbness. Patient should discuss these
symptoms concerns with their primary surgeon so he/she could guide the patient
during the healing process

It is not unusual to be very numb after a lower facelift/neck lift surgery. The numbness is nearly always temporary and you should expect full recovery over time. The amount of time, however, can be variable. Nevertheless, within a couple of weeks the numbness will stop bothering you, even before you recover any sensation.Tightness is also a normal feeling, especially along the neck and jawline. This will also subside overtime.I would encourage you to discuss this concerns with your surgeon, but seems to me that this is a normal postoperative course.

At 10 days post-op from a lower face/neck lift, it's normal to feel tight and numb.  Tightness and numbness along with bruising and swelling should resolve over time although some numbness may be permanent but doesn't typically bother most patients.  The weakness you are experiencing when you try to pronounce certain sounds is less common but can occur and should also resolve over time.  Be sure to mention it to your surgeon at your next follow up visit so it can be monitored. ac

Numbness around neck can last for up to 12 months, but is mostly gone by 6 months.Bruising can extend around the neck, but is most common at the top of the chest.Swelling will last for up to 6 months and will be very obvious for most of that time.Motor weakness, like difficulty pursing your lips is less common but should resolve with 3 months.If any of these problems does not resolve or gets worse, or you are just worried, then you should return to your primary surgeon to discuss.

At this point, numbness and tightness are very common. Most people will feel numbness around or in front of the ears temporarily. If this does not continue to improve, you should present this question to your surgeon to gain their insight. At 10 days it is much too early to judge the return of numbness and some weakness.  Everyone experiences this for a limited period of time ranging from a few days to a few weeks.  There can even be permanent numbness around the earlobes although over several months you will note a gradual return of feeling associated with a variety of sensations such as itching, burning and even electric shock like twinges. I am certain that much work was done to give you the appearance that you like and the other things come with the territory.  Be patient and enjoy the ride (and the compliments)!

Yes, this is normal at 10 days.  Some patients can have some permanent numbness in some areas.  However, the person to whom you should be directing post op questions is you doctor.
