Cold compresses only work well for the first 72 hours after a surgery or trauma. Then should use warm. If you still have a lot of edema your surgeon may want to try short course of steroids. You can also take some Ibuprofen which is an anti-inflammatory (Motrin) which will help to decrease the edema.
Some individuals are more likely to have prolonged swelling or edema in the eyes. The best treatment is to reduce all intake, use warm compresses followed by gentle massage of the area.RegardsDr. J
