I had a bilateral extended brachioplasty with liposuction (which did not result in much of an improvement and actually caused other cosmetic issues) over a year ago. I still can't get through a work day without feeling swollen, weak and sore. I don't know what is wrong or what doctor to even see? Is this normal?? I refuse to go back to my PS - the insurance actually covered the surgery the first time as well as the revisions I requested but did not do (he also left me with dog ears with my breast lift)
Answer: Pain Post Op After Arm Lift/Brachioplasty Thank you for your question regarding what to do about your arms after an arm lift , arm reduction, or brachioplasty. I would suggest you seek another plastic surgeon who specializes in arm lifts. In addition, I would also suggest a pain management doctor to manage your pain. It is altogether likely that you may need an arm lift revision. This may require an arm scar incision or a complete arm lift revision. Please do not give up. Travel out of state if you must to find such an arm lift expert. Seek other consultations with experienced, arm lift plastic surgeons and pain management specialist. If you have any more questions regarding an arm lift, arm reduction, arm lift revision, Brachioplasty, or plastic surgery in general, please contact my officeSincerely, Dr. Katzen. Answer: No Thank you for your question. Pain lasting this long is atypical. There are a lot of nerves scattered across your body, and surgery can cause trauma to them with unusual results. One cause may be due to a nerve ending that didn't heal correctly resulting in a neuroma. This can be treated with surgery. A plastic surgeon can evaluate you for this as well as fix the other cosmetic issues you are having.

Answer: Pain after brachioplasty arm lift Hi there, and thank you so much for this question. It would be very unusual to be suffering the problems you describe, one year on from surgery and I would want to understand why this is happening to you. Sometimes liposuction can damage or bruise the sensory nerves in the upper arm, if any nerves were cut then they could develop into painful neuromas though I suspect that is not the case with you. Occsionally it is just a prolonged reaction of the nerves after surgery but if so the problem can be tackled by massage, desensitisation exercises or ancillary non-surgical modalies of treatment; sometimes if pain is severe even referral to a pain specialist - again I would not think that this would be the case for you but the basis of any advice would be predicated on you being fully assessed by a fully qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. I do hope that this answer has been helpful for you and my very best wishes for improving your long term outcome from brachioplasty.
