I had Restylane lip injections two days ago and my lips are very itchy inside my actual lip. Is this a reaction to Restylane?

I had Restylane lip injections 2 days ago. All of a sudden my lips are so itchy but inside the actual lip. The man who injected made one incision on both sides of the lip and injected that way. Not all over the lip. It’s really uncomfortable. I took Benadryl and have no relief. I’m allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, macrobid, sulfa, cipro, levaquin and nasid’s. I also have Graves’ disease if this helps. Thanks.

I recommend following up with your injector for a formal evaluation. If necessary, the filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Benadryl, icing and cold compresses may give improvement. It will take 1-2 weeks for final results. Best, Dr. Emer

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing discomfort after your injections.  While itchiness may be a sign of normal swelling after the procedure, it is also important to make sure that it is not from an infection in the area.  Make sure that your injector is aware of your condition.  Restylane can usually be dissolved if it is not giving you the result that you want.  Good luck!

Many thanks for your question. If you have many other allergies it could be likely this is also a slightly allergic reaction. It may settle without treatment but you are definitely best placed getting back in contact with your injector.
