Will FMLA allow sick time to be used if an abdominoplasty is used to repair an umbilical hernia? Policy says no cosmetic surgery

If you fix the hernia at the same time as the Tummy Tuck, you should be able to get the FMLA for the hernia. It will be best to be evaluated to see exactly the size of the hernia to be repair at the same time as the other procedure.

Hernia repair surgery is a good reason to use FMLA leave a abscence. As long as the surgeon uses that on the documentation there should be no problem. I would talk to your surgeon's office about this when they fill out the paperwork. Best of luck! 

Please check with your employer.  If you are having a hernia repair you should be covered, even if you are having another procedure (tummy tuck, breast lift, liposuction) at the same time.  Not all hernias can be fixed at the same time as a tummy tuck though, so you need to talk with your plastic surgeon also.Good Luck!
