Pain in bottom lip and chin after lip filler. Is this normal?

Hi Terri, swelling, bruising and some discomfort are all common after lip filler injections. To diminish the bruising, I recommend using LightStim LED or, in more significant cases, a vascular laser or IPL treatment. Arnica with Bromelain ("Arnika Forte") can also be taken to help speed up the healing.If the bruising doesn't improve - or if the pain persists - follow up with your physician or see an experienced cosmetic dermatologist for an evaluation. If you're unhappy with your results, you can also have the filler dissolved with hyaluronidase and try a different filler and/or technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Hey there - thanks for the question! Pain after injections can be normal as long as its only mild. Since you don't describe bad pain/tenderness to touch or skin changes, I suspect it's likely due to the bruise and should subside with time. Hope that helps.

You don't say how long ago the filler was placed or what type of filler was used. Without pictures it is difficult to say if this is normal healing/swelling.  You should contact your provider to discuss your concerns. They can best advise you.

Some tenderness and swelling should be expected from filler injections. However, anything more than that and you should contact your injector. Significant pain especially in the lips could possibly mean an artery is affected. If this occurs you must seek immediate attention. So, tenderness and slight bruising is fine. Contact the office where you had the procedure and express your concern.   Icing the area for a couple of days should help.
