I have heard conflicting answers about a little lipo to the upper abdomen, just under the breasts when having a tummy tuck. Some say you can't do it because of the blood supply. Some say a little lipo is okay.
Answer: Is it dangerous to lipo a little bit of the upper abdomen when doing a tummy tuck? Performing liposuction to the upper abdomen at the time of a tummy tuck does add risks to the surgery. The safest approach is to stage the procedures and have the liposuction done at a later date. Most patients would prefer to have only one operation, so many surgeons will combine the procedures. By being conservative in the liposuction and careful and meticulous during the tummy tuck, for many patients this can be a safe procedure.

Answer: Simultaneous liposuction in area of abdominoplasty Hi and welcome to our forum! The tissues of the abdomen largely depend upon the blood supply from two sources: The superior epigastric artery from above, and the inferior epigastric artery from below. Abdominoplasty involves a suprapubic incision which eliminates the blood supply from below as the blood vessel is transected. The abdominal flap will tolerate this partial decrease in blood supply in most instances. Liposuction in the same area, however, may jeopardize complete flap survival. As a conservative physician, I delay liposuction until the abdominoplasty has healed to prevent this potential significant complication. Some physicians advocate simultaneous liposuction. If performed, it must be minimal in scope. If performed separately, one can treat the excess fatty tissues more aggressively.Best wishes...
