Did I get a bad liposuction job? Advice? (photos)

Question

I received tumescent liposuction 3 months ago on my flanks and abdomen. I've attached photos of my progress. Only 1 of those jar things was removed of fat. Worried it was not enough.

Thank you for your question and photos. I think you answered your own question. This is not only bad liposuction, it is awful. I don't know who your "surgeon" was, but definitely not a board certified plastic surgeon. Sorry to say, your preop photo looks way better. You have so many poke holes that it looks like a measles outbreak on your abdomen. I would say it is not how much was removed, but how it was removed, left you with this very bad deformity. This is my recommendation: 1. do not go back to this surgeon for "revision" even if it promised to be done for free. 2. You need liposuction and contouring done by someone who is a real surgeon and has experience in body sculpting surgery. 3. This is not a revision, it is a whole new procedure to correct these deformities. 4. Wait 6 months before seeking consultations with board certified plastic surgeons only. Pending a formal evaluation, you may be a good candidate for a Revision Liposuction. You need a formal evaluation by an expert in body shaping and contouring to determine what is best. 
The best in body contouring not only removes fat with energy devices like VASER ultrasound but also internally heats the skin with radiofrequency devices such as Renuvion (J-Plasma), InMode BodyTite, and ThermiRF to heat the undersurface of the skin and tighten it at the same time as fat removal. These combinations are called 4D HI-DEF VASER Liposuction and can only be done by a well-trained body contouring specialist. At the same time, fat should be harvested and purified, with PRP and stem cells added, and then injected into muscles, indentations and cellulite to get body shaping and contouring. For a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), we inject the fat into the buttock for contouring and lifting, but fat can also be used in areas such as the chest/breast, arms/shoulders, calves and face.  Cellulite should also be treated with a combination of Cellfina, subcision, and/or fillers such as Bellafill, Renuva synthetic fat, or Sculptra. If skin is very loose before surgery, then it will need to be removed: tummy tuck/abdominoplasty for lower abdominal skin; breast lift for excess breast skin; and/or a brachioplasty for loose arm skin. Overall, you need a full assessment, but simple liposuction alone will not tighten skin and needs a combination of various methods -- fat removal, skin tightening, defining, fat grafting, skin removal -- to get the best in body contouring and body sculpting. Although liposuction would have helped, it needed to be combined with an abdominoplasty, to restore muscle wall integrity, and repair the umbilical hernia. Be sure your surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon, not a cosmetic surgeon.

I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a liposuction surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides  you will be able to see the final result of your surgery. If this doesn't improve, then you will probably need a liposuction revision in order to improve your results.

Hello Christine.  It appears like you have have some contour irregularities after your liposuction.  From your photos, it looks like you are only 11 weeks out from surgery.  The appearance may continue to improve as the swelling goes down.  I would suggest keeping in contact with your plastic surgeon to follow along the results.   If it does not improve, there are things that can be done to help improve the appearance.  I hope this helps!

your results look less than stellar. Based on that I would have less faith in your current provider revising this considering revision work is more difficult than primary liposuction.  You do have muscle separation from previous pregnancies that's contributing to the bulging mid abdomen. Liposuction results are saying about six weeks after the procedure at which time patients typically appreciate 80% of final results. By three months results are typically final or very close to final. Discuss your concerns with your provider and consider if you in person consultations. My practice is devoted exclusively to liposuction and fat transfer procedures. For the last 10 years this represent and 99% of all surgeries I've done.  Performing consistent high-quality liposuction is much more difficult than it seems.  Personally I have performed over 7000 liposuction procedures and I can speak from personal experience when I say it takes years and years of dedicated effort to mastering this single procedure.  One option you may want to consider is converting this to a full tummy tuck.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
