Will the bandage make it harder to breath?

Thank you for your question.The bandage should not be so tight that it restricts your breathing. If you wake up from surgery and feel that it is doing, you can always readjust the dressing. I would also discuss this with your surgeon, they may not even put a wrap on after surgery. Good luck with your surgery.

Different doctors use different types of dressings after surgery.  Most surgeons use some mild compression in the bandage.  However, most of what you generally feel is tightness from the new implant placement.  I would speak to your doctor to discuss your concerns and the anxiety issue.  Sometimes some Xanex helps with the anxiety and makes the process easier if you have an anxiety baseline.  Best wishes!

 The wrap can always be adjusted  for your comfort. However, if the breast implants are partly submuscular such as with the dual plane technique, you will feel some tightness in the chest area. The larger the breast implants, the more tightness. This obviously improves over time and you will definitely get used to it. I have seen this problem before and sometimes a muscle relaxant will help significantly. Some of the muscle relaxants also  improve anxiety. Best wishes!

It is unlikely that the bandage would restrict your breathing. However, the pressure from the implants themselves causes significant tightness. You will be able to breath just fine, but I would make sure your anxiety is optimally controlled before surgery.

Generally the bandage should not cause a restriction in your breathing and can be adjusted postoperatively to make this not an issue.  Talk to your plastic surgeon beforehand and let him or her know of your concerns.

This can certainly be an issue. You should mention this to your plastic surgeon before surgery. We do like to have some compression on the tissues after the surgery. It can be adjusted to make both of your happy, I believe.All the best,Talmage Raine MD
