How do BA incisions heal? What are the stages? How long will it take?

I have not removed the bandages yet (I'm on day 3 post op). I was instructed to do it on day 4 post op, after showering the 1st time. That's when I will also need to replace the bandages. Therefore I have not seen the incisions. However they hurt a lot and bulge a little. The post opertion bra (Cerecare with implant stabilizer) seems to also rub into to incision area in a very unpleasant way.

Thank you for your recent question!  It can take a week to two weeks for the incision to heal however the redness of the scar could last up to a year.  Once the scar is no longer red this is the end stage of the scar results.  If you are have any questions or discomfort I would contact your surgeon to have proper direction for his/her post op care.  Best of luck!

You should contact your surgeon's office and make them aware of what is going on. We spend a great deal of time before surgery educating our patients about their recovery in order to try to make it as smooth as possible.

Incisions usually heal within 7-10 days on the surface, but continue to mature up to a year  or longer.  The incisions can hurt early on but given time will settle down.  Postop wound care/bra support varies from surgeon to surgeon.  If the bra is uncomfortable and you feel the bra is rubbing against the incision wrongly, I would alert your surgeon.

If it hurts, I would probably switch the bra to a sports bra. The incision may, or may not, have stitches on the surface. All wounds go through three phases of wound healing. They will look their worst at about six weeks, being a  bit raised and red. This will gradually fade. The final scar will be seen at six months. The good news is that the wound is well hidden in the fold beneath the breast.All the best,Talmage Raine MD
