Answer: Tummy tuck results To make an accurate assessment regarding the outcome of a plastic surgery procedure we generally always need to see a complete set of proper before and after pictures. The most common reason patients have bulging of their abdomen after a full tummy tuck is because of excess visceral or intra-abdominal fat. This can often seen on pre-operative pictures. It’s also fairly straightforward to differentiate failed muscle tightening versus bulging due to excess visceral fat. It would also be important to note if there has been any potential weight gain for which even a few pounds can create abdominal bulging. Insufficient, muscle tightening or failure of muscle tightening is relatively uncommon, but it is a possible explanation, though not usual. I suggest you follow up with your provider and discuss your concerns with him or her. Alternatively, you can schedule in person second opinion consultations with other plastic surgeons in your community. For a quality second opinion consultation bring with you a complete set up before and after pictures and a copy of your operative report. These should all be available up from your current providers office. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
