I had lipo on upper and lower abdomen flank & bra area. The doctor assured me that lipo will reduce my tummy since I have great skin elasticity. Today he said I have diastasis. I'm upset cuz he never mentioned this during consult. I would've done tummy tuck instead. I had to request to see him cuz my 1st appt was with his nurse & 2nd with her again. I think he didn't mention diastasis in consult because he doesn't do tummy tucks & I would've gone elsewhere. I feel lumps still I think I'm still swollen. How long before I can do a tummy tuck?
Answer: Do I have a diastasis? 7 wks post laser lipo and I don't see a difference. Will my tummy get flatter? (Photos) Swelling and healing as well as scar maturation can persist for 6 months and sometimes up to 1 year following liposuction. You should probably wait at least 6 months before considering a tummy tuck after liposuction.

Answer: Liposuction Results Hi, thank you for your question. First, don't lose hope! Give it a full 3-6 months to see the final results of your liposuction. It really can take this long for all the swelling to go away. It is difficult to tell for sure whether or not you have a rectus diastasis without examining you. If you do, you are right that an abdominoplasty is the only way to fix this. I would wait a full year after aggressive abdominal liposuction before having an abdominoplasty, otherwise the blood supply to your abdominal skin could be at risk, leaving you open to complications like poor wound healing or even tissue loss. Finally, it does look like you have some deep (under the muscle) fat, and this can only be reduced with diet and exercise. Without some reduction here, you likely will not be happy with the results of an abdominoplasty as there is a limit to how tight your abdominal muscle repair can be if there is a significant amount of fat pushing out on the muscles.

Answer: Do I have a diastasis? 7 wks post laser lipo and I don't see a difference. Will my tummy get flatter? Based on your photos and information provided- it appears that you have received a significant reduction in fat in all of the areas of concern . However, pre-operatively and persisting post-operatively - you have excess lower abdominal skin. You would have benefited from an Abdominoplasty/ tummy tuck with diastasis repair at that time, as well as the aggressive liposuction that you received provided that it complies with the statutory regulations of your State. In Florida we are limited to 1000cc of fat if a major other procedure is performed.

Answer: I suspect you may have a diastasis but also have fat behind the abdominal wall Liposuction can only improve the subcutaneous fat. You appear to have some intra-abdominal fat which is pushing your abdomen outwards. The only way to improve this is through better dieting and exercise (see my web site for information on ketones and ketogenic diets). you will also continue to improve for several more months after liposuction. however, you will not get a flat abdomen, unless you decrease your total body fat. A tummy tuck will tighten the muscles but is also limited depending on how much intra-abdominal fat you have.david berman md
