Can I wear makeup on my face during my liposuction procedure on my abdomen and flanks?

You ask a very logical question. If you're having surgery on your abdomen, why does makeup on your face matter? Well, it does and it doesn't. A little makeup is not important. Eyelash extensions are a bad idea, they can drop into your eyes resulting in corneal abrasions. Heavy makeup can confuse people into thinking that you are breathing well when you are actually a little blue. Well applied makeup can be substantially smudged following surgery. So as in most things in life, it depends. 

I would recommend removing all makeup and jewelry prior to your procedure for safety reasons , especially if you're going under general anesthesia , the makeup can smear and get into your eyes . This should be avoided,I hope that helps! Best of

In general this is not a very good idea. It is not prohibited but if one is having general anesthesia with liposuction, most likely one's makeup will be smeared from the monitors and the breathing apparatus and tape that anesthesiologists frequently use, especially if you're flanks are to be liposuctioned which would result in a change of your body position on the bed.It is also important to make sure the anesthesiologist knows if you have eyelash extensions. Anesthesiologists also use the color of your skin and your lips in monitoring your health and safety in addition to all the electronic monitors they use. Operating room personnel are very used to seeing people without their makeup so one should never be embarrassed presenting without your daily makeup.

It is fine to wear makeup to the surgery center. However, it may get messed up  from the mask  placed on your face as you go to sleep, as well as tape sometimes used to secure it in place and to keep your eyes closed.

I would recommend removing all make-up and jewelry prior to your surgery. You may have some tape temporarily placed on your skin for airway purposes; the make-up may interfere with this. Also, your eyes need to be free of makeup debris so that they are not irritated. Jewelry, including rings, necklaces and piercings, should be removed. The metal in some jewelry can increase your risk of localized burns. Also, if you have swelling and rings on your fingers, the blood supply to your finger could be compromised! It's best to just leave it all at home. 

Hello,If you are undergoing general anesthesia, it’s best to avoid all face makeup.  Typically no make up or jewelry prior to your surgery, but each surgeon has their own pre/post op instructions that is very important to follow.  I recommend no jewelry or makeup prior to surgery for your own safety. I wish you luck Dr. S. Alexander Earle

There is no problem having make up on your face during your liposuction, if your doctor thinks there's an important reason to have your face cleaned it will be done before proceeding with your surgery. Many patients do not follow their preoperative instructions and wear make up to the surgery, if no procedure is being done on the face then there is no problem. But every patient reading this please pay attention....no nail polish, relish or acrylic nails, at least one nail free (this is a lot more important than make up) because we use the tip of the finger to measure oxygen saturation (level of oxygen in blood). I also highly recommend to remove any jewelry and piercings before surgery. Many times we use electrocautery and you can get burns if you leave a piercing on.

I do instruct my patients to take off all make up and jewelry prior to the procedure. In your case your face will be out of the sterile field. From the standpoint of keeping a sterile environment wearing facial make up should not be an issue during your procedure. I have discussed this with our anesthesiologist and he would proceed with the case with facial make up present.Since you have asked this question it must be important for you as an individual to wear facial make up and I would not cancel your procedure because of it.

I highly recommend that you consult your own surgeon with regards to this question, but typically all make-up and jewelry should be removed for your surgery, particularly if you will be under general anesthesia.
