What do I do if my root canal crown fell off? (photos)

Question

I had A root canal done when I was around 10-11 & he left a gap between the crown and my gum. Well 8 years later and that crown has fallen off. Should I be worried ? What should I do? It came off after eating some gummies. I caught it just in time and its still in tact .

Crowns come off for a reason, due to decay, broken tooth underneath, or cement bond was not strong enough.  The cements we use today are better than 8 years ago, so it is possible the solution is simply to recement the crown.  But, since the tooth had root canal therapy it is more prone to fracture, so see a dentist ASAP to make sure the tooth can be saved.

Hi, thanks for sending your question. There may be issues such as recurrent caries in the tooth, in which the crown came off from. This is why its very important to visit with your dentist and have him/her evaluate the tooth to check its condition to make sure the tooth can be restored. All the best.

I recommend you to see your dentist ASAP.  It seems to me with the picture you submitted that the crown might be savable.  If your dentist find new decays on your tooth however, he may recommend a new crown.

It is important to get an appointment ASAP with your dentist. The crown may be able to be recemented, but it also may need to be remade. The longer you wait to go to the dentist the lower your chances become for reusing this crown.
