Temporary crown after root canal hurts, help! (Photo)

You are likely clenching/grinding on the tooth and that is not giveng ample healing time.  The tooth gets bruised and the pain persists.  Have your dentist check that first, and if pain continues you could reevaluate the situation.  Good luck.

I always recommend to postpone the crown until the tooth is asymptomatic. There might be some accessory canals that are not taken care off or the tooth might be fractured. I wouldn't place a permanent crown on a tooth until the pain is gone.

A root canal treatment is supposed to remove all of the nerves in the tooth. If there is still pain in the tooth afterwards sometimes a dentist may suspect that a nerve was missed. Most of the time the tooth is still painful because of trauma to the end of the root when everything was being cleaned out. This should resolve in a few days.  If there is still an infection it may need to be redone to make sure all the bacteria is out.
