Temporary crown is now rough and irritating tongue, help!

The endodontist's job is to clean and instrument the canal to rid the infection and seal up the roots.  You should return to your dentist for a proper temporary restoration and treatment plan a final restorative option for the tooth.

Hello and thank you for your question.  Since these are temporary crowns, they can either be polished or replaced. Ask your dentist to arrange a meeting with the dental technician. It is really helpful if the technician can see the result in person. I recommend following up with your Dentist about your concerns or consult with a Prosthodontist, who can discuss with you the different types of crowns to give you the best long-term results. A Prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has advanced training in restoring teeth and can create a customized treatment using the latest techniques in dental crowns.

If the dentist does not want to continue to polish it they may have been concerned with it breaking or becoming too thin. Once this happens the only way to make it smoother would be to remake it. You could also place some ortho wax to help alleviate the roughness as the tongue is notorious for finding any minuscule irregularities in the mouth. Hopefully this will only be short term fix as the final crown should be cemented on within a couple of weeks. 

Express your concerns to your dentist who should be able to polish the temporary or replace it. An examination is needed to provide proper recommendations.
