Can I do multiple Lipo sessions and no tummy tuck until the last session instead of high volume lipo?

Thank you for your question. While you can liposuction several areas at once there is a limit to how much fat can be removed safely. Risks from liposuction increase significantly when over 5 liters of fat are suctioned out. We usually stay below this limit for patient safety. We’ve found that we’re able to achieve dramatic improvements for our patients with 2 to 4 liters of liposuction, depending on their needs. If you have high amounts of fat to be removed then multiple sessions will be the best option. If you have excess skin in your abdomen, then a tummy tuck will need to be done as well to address the excess skin and give it a firmer and smoother appearance.  You definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety.  Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

I definitely recommend multiple sessions to fully sculpt away fat in large very full areas.  In these obese situations, I typically start with the front of the abdomen and then during a second session sculpting the flanks and love handles, and then a third session to sculpt the bra rolls.  Attached before and after photos are two sessions of liposculpting.  We can do an email consult to see if this is the correct option for you.  Instagram @justinyovinomd

You need to lose weight first before undergoing any cosmetic procedure to get the best outcome. For best results, it is recommended to be at your ideal or stable weight before getting a sculpting liposuction procedure. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, rather it is for sculpting and defining and removing problem areas that cannot be removed with weight loss and diet / exercise alone. Dear badskinfrownyface,it is hard to tell without an examination. Liposuction gets rid of excess fat. Liposuction alone can make your skin more lax and likely make the appearance less aesthetically pleasing. A full tummy tuck address all of the skin laxity and abdominal wall laxity. It repositions your umbilicus as well. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Generally speaking, safety guidelines for liposuction performed as an outpatient (so you can go home that day), recommends suctioning out less than 5L of fat and fluid. For patients who are expected to need more than 5 liters removed, it is best to stage the procedure as you mention. The important thing is to have a safe surgery and not a quick one. If you have too much excess skin, a tummy tuck after liposuction may be the best choice. Also, you might consider a breast reduction.

I would recommend not having liposuction multiple times.
If you have more fat than what should be removed within the basic safety limits which in California is generally considered 5 L then you will need more than one session of liposuction.
When I have patients like this I treat each area until completion until I reach 5 L and then stop.
The second session of liposuction when indicated then treats the remaining areas to completion.
The second session of liposuction can often be done within a few days of the first.
I would highly recommend you wait a minimum of six months until having a Tommy talk after your last little section session if that liposuction included the abdomen.
There are different ways to skin a cat(no pun intended) but that's how I would approach your situation.
I've had many patients with similar situations.
Liposuction will create scar tissue that makes secondary liposuction in the same area more difficult.
The scar tissue also has to mature before the tissue can stretch appropriately for a tummy tuck.
This process takes six months or longer. Best of luck,
