Hello and thank you for your question. There is no evidenced-based correlation between breast implants and auto-immune diseases or osteoarthritis. Iwould consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon for a full discussion. Bestwishes and good luck,PejmanAflaki, M.D. Johns Hopkins-trained double board-certified plastic surgeon
Rumours is the right word since there is absolutely no evidence to support the claims that breast implants cause inflammatory diseases. The weight of large implants could impact hip or knee osteoarthritis depending on how bad it already is. Book a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon near you to discuss your specific situation and see if breast implants are right for you. Hope that helps!
Leaking silicone gel isn't thought to cause health problems, such as breast cancer, reproductive problems or rheumatoid arthritis. Still, a ruptured silicone breast implant might eventually cause breast pain, breast thickening, or changes in the contour or shape of the breast. Most data suggest that BIA-ALCL occurs more frequently following implantation of breast implants with textured surfaces rather than those with smooth surfaces.
Thank you for your question. There is not any evidence that silicone implants can increase the risk for arthritis or make it worse. Osteoarthritis is arthritis that is due to aging and damage to joints. This is a progressive disease than worsens over the years. Implant placement is not going to do anything to speed this process up for you.
Thank you for sharing your question. Silicone implants will not worsen any preexisting osteoarthritis as that forms from overuse of a particular joint. Hope this helps.
Dear Time4 me61,no, silicone implants should cause no worsening of your osteoarthritis. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hi and welcome to our forum!Idiosyncratic silicone hypersensitivity is an extremely rare condition. Allergy is felt responsible but the final word is not yet in. Otherwise, silicone is a biologically inert substance, not inducing an inflammatory reaction. Silicone is everywhere, from pots and pans coated with the substance, shampoo, lubricants, bandages, joint replacement implants, and cardiac pacemaker coating..,.it is even used to reduce penetration resistance during a routine needle stick as the needles are siliconized as are surgical needles. It will not affect your osteoarthritis.Best wishes...
There is no scientific evidence to suggest that breast implants cause or worsen arthritis. The FDA called a moratorium in 1992 limiting the use of silicone gel implants. After 15 years, the implants were returned to the market as there was no scientific evidence to support claims of association with rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or scleroderma.
Hi Time. The answer is that there is no scientific evidence to suggest that silicone implants will cause or exacerbate arthritis. On another note, you have "osteoarthritis" which is arthritis due to use/over use of joints. Essentially, your arthritic joints are getting worn out. This is different to autoimmune arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis. There isn't any evidence of silicone implants affecting autoimmune arthritis either.Hope this helps.sek
Hello. Thank you for your inquiry. It is important to have an in-person assessment regarding your concerns as it is difficult to determine virtually. Exact end results and cup sizes are usually quite difficult to calculate as everyone has a different starting point. There are many different...
You will not be cleared for aesthetic surgery if you are suffering from an active infection that reoccurs without treatment. Undergoing surgery will just make things worse, since you will then have another skin opening through the incisions and may cause further infection after surgery. The best...
Hello and thank you for your question. There is no proved link between breast implants and autoimmune diseases. As long as your medical condition is stable and adequately treated, it should be safe to have breast implants. Best, Pejman Aflaki, M.D. Johns Hopkins-trained double ...
