Can I achieve a full D cup without high profile implants? (photo)

Question

My BWD was measured at 12.1 cm. I want moderate, max moderate plus implants for a natural look. I want to be a full D cup and feel like 400cc would achieve this, but looking at size charts tells me I would need to go high profile for that.... Sientra implants feel the best to me, and it looks like the max I can get with Sientra Mod+ is 355cc. 300cc with Mentor mod+, and 310cc with Natrelle Mod. My pre op is 6 months away so id love a bit of guidance on this now :) included wish pics

Hi.   I recommend and use a dimensional approach where the base width is the starting point, which is the diameter that will appropriately fit your chest wall.   Then how large you want to go basically determines the implant volume needed to get you there. I then pick out profile based on all of that. I would guess, based on your pictures, that you would “need” a high profile implant to fit your chest wall properly. If you choose less projection than that, then you should expect more lateral fullness or “side boob”, as well as the implant extending higher up on the chest wall. I would recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon with good experience with breast implants and breast augmentation.Good luck and take care,Dr. Howell

Unfortunately there is no direct correlation between implant size and ultimate bra cup so I would focus on what implants size and profile will best approximate your goal results.  At times for women with narrow chests an increase to full profile implants is needed to achieve their desired size.

Hello and thank you for your question and sharing your photos. Implant profile to a large extent is based on your desired breast volume and the width of your breast footprint. BWD is not an absolute number and there is always some inter-observer variability between plastic surgeons. Choosing large volume implants in your case would likely necessitate using high profile implants, which is fine. I would seek consultation with a board-certified plastic

None of the modalities to approximate final results from breast 
implants are 100% accurate; they merely facilitate the patient and the 
board certified PS concurring on the size and type of breast implant 
which will come the closest to reaching the patient's goal. My patients 
prefer to try on sizers under garments they typically wear to determine 
if they fit as expected and help allay some of their trepidation 
associated with this decision. When you consult in office with your PS, 
ask to try on a profile bra with silicone HP 400 cc sizers under
 a tailored blouse, tight sweater, swimsuit, workout clothes, tank tops,
 and other garments you typically wear so that you have the best idea of
 whether the garments fit as desired with the implant selected.  I would
 recommend that you go with the size that boosts your self-esteem, and 
fits your anatomy.
Choosing an implant based on an aesthetic goal that exceeds your anatomic capacity may lead to complications and possibly revision.   Remember that there is no standardization of cup sizes between sizes bra manufacturers.

Stop thinking in terms of bra sizes, they are irrelevant and not a useful means of determining breast implant size. Instead, have your surgeon size you in the office to see how you want to look in the mirror. Keep in mind that you are a set up for a problem if you choose an implant size that your tissues cannot accommodate, specifically dropout/double bubble. Although everyone talks about BWD, it is not the only or most important measurement. Nipple to fold distance under stretch is crucial to biodimensional analysis, having a big impact on maximum implant volume; exceeding that volume will lead to complications. As for natural versus fake, the bigger the implant you use, the faker you'll look; there's just no way around that. Similarly, the higher the profile implant, the faker the look.

You could achieve a D cup without using a high profile implant. Chasing small diameter differences to conform to a chart usually isn't very helpful. It is best to sit down with a plastic surgeon and discuss what very subtle differences you may get with the various implants and what will approach your expectations the closest.

breast implant type and sizing selection is a complicated process and requires a detailed consultation that includes a discussion of your goals, a detailed examination, and a lengthy discussion. But the decision will always start and end with the patient. When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small.You should discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon and make sure that your surgeon understands your goals.

You are a great candidate for a breast augmentation.  It is likely possible to get you to a D cup without a high profile.  The size, profile, and shape of the implant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wall measurements, and soft tissue quality.  This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon.  Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.

The way I would prioritize things would be volume first, profile second and lastly the type of gel (responsive, soft touch, highly cohesive).  I would look at it in that order.  Volume trumps all if and if you compromise your volume for a particular profile you will be disappointed in the long term.If you shove in a moderate implant that is too wide for your base diameter you will get the same look you would have gotten with a higher profile implant but now with more rippling and issues over time.Your breast approach is to find a board certified plastic surgeon who does a great deal of breast implant surgery and have a detailed consultation.  You have to trust the surgeon you choose to make help guide you towards your goal.  Your surgeon should tell you what would be best for you and your body.

Based in your question and the pictures you  showed, you are a great candidate for a breast augmentation. Since you have a small size, it's not possible to get that rounded and high look without high profile implants.  You may want to consider breast augmentation sub muscular too. The size and shape of the implant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wall measurements, and soft tissue quality.  This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. But I think 400cc implants will give you the results you're looking for.
