What exactly happens to the victorious fat cells from fat grafting? Do they grow/shrink/maintain size?

A lot of doctors have been responding to patient questions with "wait 3-6 months for the final result". I have seen this response re: worries of being overfilled & of losing all of the grafted fat. My question is, besides the decrease in swelling & the reabsorption of dead fat, what happens to the actual fat cells that survive? Does gaining a blood supply do anything other than maintain? Do they become more plump/grow by 6 months? Do they shrink? Stay the same? There isn't a lot of info on this.
