Vertical scar above the bellybutton, how will this effect an abdominoplasty? (Photo)

You can likely still have a tummy tuck with good result, but an exam would be necessary.Find a board certified plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of tummy
tucks and body contouring procedures each year. Then look at the
plastic surgeon's
website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can

I see this on occasion and revise the scar at time of tummy tuck. It takes a few extra minutes to do. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Dear jlaird,If I am interpreting your photo correctly your scar is in the middle of your abdomen, extending from your bellybutton up towards your ribs. This sort of scar will not preclude you from having an abdominoplasty and the scar can be improved during the procedure, however it cannot be completely removed.All the best,James

This is not an uncommon scar.  A tummy tuck can be done as a solitary procedure. Many times the results are enhanced by adding
liposuction to the hip and love handle area.
A tummy tuck is also done in combination with a breast augmentation in a

From your photo, it looks like your scar is a vertical in the midline.  In these kind of cases, I don't worry about the scar.  I actually use the scar to narrow the waist a little bit.  I do a procedure called a fleur-de-lys abdominoplasty where I remove the lower abdominal fat pad and a strip of fat pad on either side of the vertical scar.  This way the abdomen gets tightened both horizontally and vertically and you get a scar revision of the midline scar.  Sweet, huh?
