Should I get a sliding genioplasty? (Photo)

I’m 24 years old, and I am not a very good looking guy, some may even say ugly. I never really understood why my face is so unattractive, but I think one major factor may be my weak chin. I recently started looking into getting a sliding genioplasty. I am curious how much improvement it would make in terms of attractiveness, based on my condition?

It is generally considered a masculine trait to have a well defined and strong chin. A weaker or small chin is more acceptable in females. It does appear that you have a small recessive chin. Depending on many factors, you may be a candidate for a genioplasty or chin implant. The pros and cons of each can be discussed with your surgeon.

The real answer is in your bite. If you teeth align normally (see a dentist),  then you have microgenia and a large or possibly XL chin implant can do wonders for your chin and jawline  also look into improving your skin quality - acne scarring in the same treatment setting. Usually this can be done with sedation and local anesthesia and an incision either through the gum line or under your chin

The best way to determine whether any form of chin augmentation has benefit for you is computer imaging. Only you can make the judgment as to whether the changes seen are worth it and whether it makes you feel more attractive. As a general rule men with stronger chin/jawljnes are typically rated as being more attractive all other factors being equal.

A sliding Genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay at the hospital, and is much more invasive. It's usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. Placement of a chin implant can augment the chin forward cosmetically for better facial balance and proportions. In our practice, we place chin implants under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure which takes approximately 30 minutes. The size, the shape, and the thickness of the implant is best determined at the time of the consultation and examination. The implants can also be custom carved to match patient's unique anatomy.

Dear Sokhavad, A strong masculine jawline in a man is considered to be more aesthetically pleasing. In patients who do not have any issues with their bite then the simpler procedure is to have chin augmentation performed versus a genioplasty. Chin augmentation has a much speedier recovery and limited downtime. In your case I would consider submental liposuction at the same time to provide a more defined jawline and balanced profile. Seek consultations with experts in the field and have imaging performed to show you the changes these procedures would provide and then you can make an informed decision. Review the surgeons before and afters to ensure expertise.

You have a smaller jaw genetically; and can either combine orthodontics and jaw advancement surgery; or mask the small jaw with a genioplasty. The chin surgery does improve the profile but also the 'mirror view' (front view).
