Hello I'm considering a sliding genioplasty but honestly I don't know what kind of effect that would have. I also don't want to undergo surgery if I can make significant progress through mewing, which have done for a bit more than three months. Prior to that my tongue posture was poor and I mouth breathed. Please let me know if there's any procedure I should get asap without trying to just wait for mewing.
Answer: Sliding genioplasty or orthognathic surgery Your chin is pretty far back, so in order to get full correction, you would need to consider moving the entire jaw forward in addition to moving the chin forward in a sliding genioplasty. This would particularly be true if your bite is significantly out of alignment (overbite), in which braces would be combined with the surgery. If you do not want to undergo orthognathic surgery, then I would definitely recommend a sliding genioplasty - This will immprove your profile while also pulling your tongue muscle forward, which will give you a better airway when sleeping at night.

Answer: Sliding genioplasty The single photo provided suggest that you have a significantly recessed chin. The degree of recession is such that a genioplasty procedure would provide the greatest amount of advancement. It can also provide some improvement in length. The surgery will not change your bit or occlusion, but will provide improvement in facial balance. We perform this procedure in out office with IV sedation and the surgery takes about 1 hour. Most patients eat a normal diet following the surgery and are back to work in 5 days.

Answer: Sliding Genioplasty A sliding genioplasty is the best procedure for you given that you may need up to 15mms of horizontal chin advancement. Dependent upon what type of change you may desire from the front view the sliding genioplasty may need a small implant overlay to keep the same chin width or make it even wider than it is now.

Answer: Would I benefit from any sort of chin and jaw surgery? From the very limited photograph, there's a significant recessive chin profile present. If your teeth are significantly out of alignment, consider a sliding genioplasty performed by an oral surgeon. This procedure is performed in a hospital setting under general anesthesia. If you're simply trying to augment the chin forward for cosmetic purposes, then consider a chin implant performed under local anesthesia.
