In 2012, I had a breast augmentation with gel silicone textured implants with a crease incision. Before surgery, I was an A cup and since surgery, have been a D cup. Unfortunately, I am no longer happy with my breasts and have been experiencing some adverse effects that may be from the breast implants (i.e., extreme fatigue, joint pain). They also feel too heavy for me. However I am scared of what my breasts may look like after removal. I would appreciate your recommendation and expert advice.

Answer: What will my breasts look like after implant removal? Hello @jaydubb, thank you for your question. In case of an explantation with capsulostomy, the surgical procedure would imply a breast reconstruction, because taking out the volume that the prosthesis gave will require repositioning of the tissues. In this way, you would achieve an aesthetic result you would be happy with. If what you want is to do an explantation with capsulostomy is not convenient to have fat transfer to breasts in the same procedure, it is advisable to wait 3 to 4 months to avoid the fat to die or risk of infection. In this case the incision would be periareolar in a L shaped to avoid making a T. The best course of action is to consult one or several board certified plastic surgeon for more information and options tailored specifically to your needs. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS. Answer: Breast implant removal You can elect to have your implants removed at any time. Since you have had them in for several years and had little breast tissue to begin, you will likely be left with loose, sagging breasts once the implant volume is gone. If you are wanting smaller breasts you may want to consider smaller implants. Fat transfer to the breasts can lead to microcalcifications which can interfere with future imaging studies.
