Can I get upper blepharoplasty, eye bag filler and LASIK surgery, without any conflicts?

Great question. It is highly recommended to wait at least 6 months after LASIK surgery before undergoing an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. This is to prevent dry eye symptoms and complications. If you are planning to wait 1 year after blepharoplasty to get the LASIK surgery, that is fine too. Fillers to treat lower eyelid aging is unaffected by the timing of LASIK surgery, however, not everyone is a candidate for this. See a plastic surgeon to discuss your specific goals for an upper eyelid blepharoplasty and lower eyelid rejuvenation. The occidental upper eyelid is unique with regards to the position of the eyelid crease and presence of an epicanthal fold, both of which can be managed during surgery depending on your goals.

The risk of blindness is actually higher for surgery than for filler.  The risk is low.  That is honestly not my concern for you.  I just do not want you to turn your back on an essential treatment option because of ill informed opinions by doctors who post here. The history of lasik surgery has a giant impact on the ability to perform eyelid surgery on you.  Lasik permanent reduces corneal sensitivity and contributes to dry eye.  Eyelid surgery also contributes to dry eye.  It is incumbent on the potential eyelid surgeon to advocate for your eye comfort.  That sometimes recludes recommending eyelid surgery due to the risk of dry eye.  Caution is advised as you look into the issue of potential eyelid surgery.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the blindness with filler injection into the tear trough below the eye bags. It’s quite safe, as long as your plastic surgeon knows what he is doing. As for the upper eyelid surgery, different surgeons have totally different techniques. Just be sure to see a few doctors before you make a decision. Good Luck!

The only potential conflict would be that you should not have lasik within 6 months of an upper lid blepharoplasty.  While you are healing from the upper lid surgery your blink will be affected and can potentially create problems with the health of your cornea with lasik.  The risk to the cornea goes away after the 6 months so if you’re thinking around a year that should be fine.  Best of luck.

 Yes it is possible to undergo an upper lower blepharoplasty procedure  to rejuvenate the upper and lower lids. In our practice, we do not recommend fillers placed in the lower lids for a variety of issues including blindness. LASIK surgery should probably be performed six months to a year later.

I would recommend LASIK first and then the blepharoplasty.  Blepharoplasty tightens the eyelids and this can make retracting the eyelids for LASIK more difficult for the ophthalmic surgeon.  LASIK itself is painless but the retractor is quite uncomfortable, especially when your lids are tight.  I am speaking for personal experience!

There should be no problem with having upper lid blepharoplasty and lower lid fillers 1 year before lasik, in my opinion. A complete eye exam should precede surgery of course, and be sure to let your surgeon know about dryness, thyroid problems, and all other medical conditions ahead of time as this may affect the recommendation for surgery.
