It is good to wear a supportive bra (without underwires) after breast surgery for 6 to 12 weeks. I advise them for about 12 weeks as underwired bras can sometimes cause discomfort over the scar area and it does take about 3 months for swelling to settle before you can invest in a new wardrobe of lingerie. However, I advise my patients that there should not be an issue with not wearing a supportive bra for a few hours, like for an evening out, at any stage during recovery. It takes about 6 weeks for a capsule to form around the implant and secure it in position so until this time is advisable to secure the implants in position with a support bra. You should however consult your own plastic surgeon for their preference.
Thank you for your question. Keep in mind that every PS has a different protocol when it comes to bra wearing and types of bras. In my practice at 6 weeks, you are perfectly fine to go without a bra; bra's at this point after surgery are more for comfort. Be sure to follow your own surgeons recommendations. Happy Anniversary!
Regardless of any special instructions about bra wearing that I might give my patients, I tell them after the third week of breast augmentation surgery they can wear whatever they wish for special occasions. Have a great anniversary and congratulations. For more information on this and similar topics, I recommend a plastic surgery Q&A book like "The Scoop On Breasts: A Plastic Surgeon Busts the Myths."
Please remember that questions related to post-operative instructions should be relayed to your own plastic surgeon as we all have different management strategies. That being said, going bra-less for a few hours should not be a problem, and I would like to wish you a happy anniversary.Have fun.Best,
Absolutely, you can go without a bra. 6 weeks is the magic number for most surgical procedures when you can resume normal activities without restriction. With that said you should not make a habit of going braless all the time. Certainly every now and then will not hurt anything. Have fun.
I would run this past your PS but in my practice patients can go braless at this time. Enjoy your anniversary.
I think of breast implants like a great internal bra. If your surgery was successful, you should be able to enjoy going braless or with only minimal cover, most or all of the time almost instantly, or at least once you are comfortable. If you had a revision surgery you may need to wear support for a longer period, up to 6 weeks, at least during the day.
Thank you for your question. It is fine to go bra less at times. I tell our patients they need to wear a very supportive bra 99% of the time but it is fine to go bra less for certain clothes or special situations. Talk with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon on their post operative protocol. Best Wishes
Thanks for the great question. I instruct my patients that they really only need to wear a bra for comfort after surgery or while exercising. I would double check with your surgeon, but in my opinion it should be fine to dress up without a bra for your anniversary! Congratulations!~Dr. Sieber
Hello dear! Thanks for the question and congratulations for your anniversary. It is important to keep in comunication with your plastic surgeon to know his/her recommendations. But if you have 6 weeks and everything is ok, there's no reason you shouldn't go out braless in a special date.Good luck :)
Thank you for the question. It will be important to speak to your surgeon in regards to bra sizing for after surgery. In my practice, the office provides the bra for the patient so this is not something my patients need to do prior to surgery. There is no "standard" when it comes to the use of ...
Thanks for your question. While patients will experience varying degrees of swelling following an arm lift, it's best to be seen and evaluated by your plastic surgeon to exclude complications. Please call them! Best of luck to you
Hi there and thanks for posting. One of the most common questions I get asked. My view is that showering is good, it makes you feel better, and it does no harm. There is no evidence whatsoever that it caused issues in postoperative wounds, however some surgeons and wound care nurses advise against...
