Shower after surgery. Do I wrap back up afterwards?

Question

i was told to wait 3 days to take a shower after having a breast augmentation and arm lift. i guess this means that i unwrap myself. do i wrap back up afterwards? i wasnt given clear instructions.

Hi there and thanks for posting.One of the most common questions I get asked.My view is that showering is good, it makes you feel better, and it does no harm. There is no evidence whatsoever that it caused issues in postoperative wounds, however some surgeons and wound care nurses advise against it. I do not understand the rationale.Your dressings should be able to tolerate getting wet, and you can always use a hair dryer to dry further.With regards to any supportive garments, yes put them back on after the shower and after everything has dried.Best wishesRichard

Congratulations on having undergone the breast augmentation and arm lifting procedure. Always best to run these types of questions by your plastic surgeon, who knows your situation best, knows how you are progressing, and is ultimately responsible for your care. There are a variety of ways to manage postoperative patients;  the only one that matters in your case is that "prescribed” by your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.

and you should adhere to his/her policies.  We all have different opinions about showering after procedures as my own personal preference is 2 days as being plenty adequate for wounds to seal themselves.  Some surgeons go with 24 hours.  As for wrapping, support, bra, use, etc, you simply should ask your surgeon, who should be available to you 24/7 at this point and follow his/her instructions.
