Your surgeon is correct . I have seen this phenomenon several times in 25 years of doing breast reductions. Typically the patient does not have any signs of an infection, but the breast will be quite red and even relatively warm to the touch. The redness is sign of relative hyperemia, i.e. more blood flow than normal, and can persist for several months.   I have not seen long term effects  from this such as altered skin color.  Regards.

It is common to see redness on the inferior portion of the breast after a reduction. This phenomenon usually starts a little later than two weeks. You do have some small scabs and sometimes this makes the surrounding area pink. I would make sure you wash your incisions well and perhaps put some antibiotic ointment or vaseline on them. Also make sure that if you are wearing a bra, it is not sticking on the incisions. Should anything change for the worse, I would see your plastic surgeon.
