Thank you for your excellent question.  Plastic surgery training programs, like that at the University of Pennsylvania, offer resident clinics where more affordable surgery can be obtained by patients.  The resident will work with and under the guidance of a more experienced plastic surgeon.  Hope that this helps.

It is usually much less expensive to have surgery by the residents at the plastic surgery clinic at a major teaching university.  You can go on a consultation and decide if it is right for you as well as the costs.  The attending surgeon is there to oversee the surgery and may or may not scrub in depending upon the case.  Good luck with your surgery.
