Is inner lip surgery required to correct inner lip vestibule shortening as a result of sliding genioplasty?

Had facial feminization surgery in September, which included chin feminization with lateral tapering, vertical shortening & sliding genio. Love the results, but healing caused reduced vestibule height on left side of lower lip. Asymmetry & tightness affect speaking, smiling & lip mobility. An irregularity in skin texture in shortened area appears as raised, firm dots & suggests scar tissue. Grateful for advice, as inquiries have been unsuccessful. Is inner lip surgery required?

Lip shape is more or less genetically predetermined. Fillers can help emphasize some areas slightly, but aren’t inherently going to change the baseline anatomy of someone’s lips. Open surgery to change lip shape is probably not appropriate. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD

You may be a good candidate for a Medialized corner lip lift to correct the asymmetry of your lips as well as facial liposculpture. Best of luck !

A 3D lip lift may be considered for your revision, as this technique is quite powerful and provides unprecedented control to the surgeon over the upper lip. Best of luck !

Based on your photos, it looks like you would be an amazing excellent candidate for a lower V-Y plasty (a lower lip lift). You may as well need a 3D lip lift and a medialized corner lip lift to balance your lips but a consultation would be required to assess your lips. I hope this helps, best...

I recommend a lip lift. A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between your nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.
