Is it ok to get Kybella if I have an underactive thyroid?

I would not see any problem having a Kybella treatment with an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism).  You should discuss this with the physician treating you however.  

Kybella is a subdermal injection into the subcutaneous fat pad above the platysma muscle in the neck therefore it has no effect on the thyroid which is deeper in the neck. If you are considering Kybella then make sure you choose someone that is very experienced with it. Best of luck. 

You should be fine having Kybella even though you have an underactive thyroid. See a really experience injector and let he or she know about  your medical condition in detail.

It is important to share your medical history with your doctor prior to any treatments. It is important for your doctor to know of any conditions such as thyroid conditions in the area prior to a treatment. If I had a patient with an underactive thyroid on medications without a history of surgery in the area and who is concerned with a double chin I would say she is a good candidate for Kybella treatment. Thank you for your question. I do not see any problem with undergoing treatment with Kybella while having a hypothyroidism diagnosis. The human body has a series of layers that encases all of its organs and structures. Our necks have different "compartments" that are encased by these anatomical layers. From superficial to deep, think of your neck as being comprised of skin, subcutaneous fat (before the neck muscle called platysma), platysma (a sheet like muscle that animates the neck), sub-platysma fat, fascia (that tough white stuff that makes it hard to cut certain pieces of chicken or steak), "strap" muscles (other neck muscles), then the important stuff like your thyroid/parathyroid glands, etc.
Kybella is typically injected just below the dermis into what is called the "pre-platysmal" or subcutaneous fat. It creates a local inflammatory reaction that kills fat cells and causes skin retraction or recoil. The area of effect/spread is about 1 cm per injection site. Your thyroid is well protected by the layers between the gland and the subcutaneous layer that is injected.
Just make sure to have an open discussion with your injector about the expectations after Kybella injection. The results are gradual and take time, but are very effective and permanent!
