Will smoking 4 of 5 cigarettes a day effect my Hair Transplant 1 week post?

We know that stopping smoking is not easy for the patients and this is why we recommend to consume not more than 5 cigarettes per day if the patient can not stop. I wish you all the best.

If you have issues after your hair transplant surgery as well as smoking it would be best to discuss your concerns with your doctor.

Generally I advise my patients to wait two weeks before smoking, and a month before doing so daily. There's no studies that explicitly indicate it affects hair transplants but conventional wisdom would suggest that it does. Ultimately it depends on whether you're willing to take the risk or not after discussing it with your doctor.

Smoking affects the amount of proper blood flow to the transplanted grafts. Therefore, we highly recommend to our patients that they avoid smoking or limit smoking prior to the surgery and particularly one week after the procedure. Thus, it is of great importance to avoid smoking in order to ensure adequate oxygen and nutrient for the transplanted grafts in order to obtain the most successful outcome.

Smoking effects blood supply and circulation which is important for a high yielding hair restoration. It is best to avoid smoking post op. 

Nicotine in any form (smoking, vaping, chewing tobacco, nicotine gum, nicotine patch etc.) causes small blood vessels to constrict, decreasing blood flow and compromising healing.  A single cigarette will cause constriction for up to eight hours.  It is preferable to stop smoking several days/weeks prior to and after surgery of any type.
That said, this has not seemed to be a major cause of complications or poor graft take for hair transplants.  So long as you are aware that this could compromise your results and that you have informed your surgeon and discussed this with him/her, you should do okay.
