Should I continue my CoolSculpting treatments after being in pain from my first treatment?

It is possible to develop tingling, burning, pinching and sharp pains to the abdomen after a CoolSculpting treatment.  All of these issues should completely resolve within a couple of weeks after the procedure.  I do find that these side effects are less likely to occur with the newer applicators versus the older ones.  

These symptoms are completely normal after a CoolSculpting treatment. Your discomfort and swelling should improve and or disappear within the next week or so. You may take Advil or Ibuprofen to help with the discomfort. I would continue with the recommended treatment plan as long as these symptoms subside. If you feel it is not improving or worsening I would call your CoolSculpting provider.

Thank you for your question. Yes, It is completely normal to feel a little swollen and tender for a few days or even a few weeks. You may also experience: deep itching, tingling, numbness, tenderness to touch, cramping, aching and soreness. If you do have any worries, the best thing is to call or return to your practice. They will be more than happy to see you and allay any concerns that you many have. Our advice is don't sit at home and worry. CoolSculpting is a fantastic treatment and so you should get great results.

Hello and thank you for your question. All of these symptoms are normal to experience after a Coolsculpting procedure. We tell our patients 72 hours after the treatment they can take advil or ibuprofen to help with the discomfort. You may have developed the very rare but know side effect of severe pain after CoolSculpting. It will respond to gabapentin and should not last more than 2 weeks, less with the medication.It may not happen the second time, especially if different applicators are used, and if the new CoolAdvantage applicators are used, which require less vacuum. After your current pain resolves, you can have a second procedure and perhaps start the gabapentin immediately afterward or at the first sign of discomfort.Hope this helps and best to you!Sheryl Clark MD FAAD

The symptoms that you are experiencing following your coolsculpting treatment are typical for many patients. The swelling should go down within a few weeks. You are going to feel numb in the area for possibly 2-4 weeks. I would check in with your coolsculpting specialist and let them know what your symptoms are.

Hello there! Discomfort post-coolsculpting is not abnormal. Also swelling is very typical as well. I would recommend contacting your provider if you feel pain medication is needed to decrease your symptoms. If these symptoms do not decrease over the next few weeks, I would also let your provider know this as well. I do not see any reason to discontinue your second round of treatments, as long as these sensations subside. Two treatments, 6-8 weeks apart is the best recommendation. Good luck!
