Thank you for your question. I do recommend that my patients use topical scar preparations (including silicone sheeting products) for at least the first six months following their surgical procedure. With that said, silicone sheeting might now be as effective on your incisions that are already roughly 9 months old. I would recommend following up with a board-certified operating surgeon to discuss how you have healed and whether topical treatments, lasers and/or micro-needling treatments would be most effective and worthwhile.
There is no evidence that scar creams are of any benefit. Their use should be at the direction of your surgeon.
At nine months out, the effect you get from silicone is likely to be minimal. Silicone sheeting works best when used in the first several months after a procedure. At this point, if your scars are still noticeable, I would look more towards other modalities such as laser resurfacing, or micro-needling. Discuss this with board-certified plastic surgeons.Best of luck!Dr. SubbioBoard-Certified Plastic SurgeonNewtown Square/Philadelphia, PA
