Minoxidil (regaine) before FUE surgery? I am about to have a hair transplant in a week's time.

Question

I am concerned because I have been told to come of regaine a week before surgery. Then to go back it 2 weeks after meaning that there will a 3 week period of not using it. Will 3 weeks cause the hairs I've gained from regaine to be lost? Can I withdraw from regaine closer to the date of surgery or does it have to be a week?

İt will be enough to quit minoxidil a week before the hair transplant operation. After the operation it is good to wait 1 year to restart the minoxidil use.

It is best to ask your surgeon about pre or post operative care as each doctor has their unique regimen.  In general, you do not need to be on Rogaine.

I generally tell patients that if they were on minoxidil before the transplant and they have original hair that they were treating, they should wait for 2 weeks before restarting the minoxidil. After about 3 days, you can do all of the exercises you want to do with no limitations after an FUE procedure. If you never were on minoxidil, don't start using it.
