If you are willing to wear a facelift type "jaw bra" dressing for 1 week after chin liposuction, it will probably decrease your bruising and swelling and get you to where you want to be more quickly. That said, if you are having a chin implant too, your surgeon may not want that pressure on the implant, which makes sense.
Compression, especially right after surgery, is very helpful in minimizing bruising and swelling. You may want to ask your surgeon about this. Most of the time, prolonged compression of the chin and neck area is not practical, and therefore the amount of time that compression is worn is planned to be shorter than other parts of the body where it is easy to hide the compression. However, that does not mean that immediate compression is not useful.
I would say compression is not essential after liposuction under the chin and the decision on whether to use it is based on the surgeon performing the procedure. Some surgeons prefer to use compression and others do not. I personally do use a compression garment for my patients after liposuction under the chin and feel it helps reduce swelling and helps with smoothing of the skin.

Hi Thank you for your question. My protocol for my chin lipo patients is to wear a chin strap compression garment for a week. Compression not only helps with minimizing swelling and bruising but also to retract and define the jawline. A good compression garment should fit snug but not to too tight that it leads to discomfort.Hope this helps,Dr. Dillon
In our practice, we recommend a compression garment following chin liposuction for approximately one week at nighttime. The idea behind this is to improve swelling and reduce bruising and prevent seroma formation. However, there is no objective data saying that is absolutely necessary and you could best discussed this with your surgeon. Best of luck to you.
