I’ve been very sad and regretting getting liposuction all over my body, especially my chin. It’s been 9 days since my surgery and I have a crooked smile. Will this get better? Is this normal?

I would expect this resolve over the next couple of months.  The nerve that controls smiling can be temporarily weaker after surgery, but will return to normal.Neuromodulators like Botox can be used to help create a more even smile.  As it wears off over 3-4 months and the nerve gains strength, you should noticed your smile returning to normal.

It is not normal to get a crooked smile after liposuction under the chin, but it is possible.  Usually, this issue resolves completely over time, but it can take several weeks to months.  I would be sure to follow up with your surgeon so that your progress can be monitored.

Thank you for your question! It is quite common for patients to have a brief weakness of the nerve supplying the lower lip. This typically gets better over a couple of weeks. You should discuss your concerns with you PS but in general this resolves fully! Best of luck.

Do not despair.  This will most certainly resolve itself within 6 to 12 weeks.  Meanwhile I would ask your surgeon to balance the smile with neurotoxin (Botox) judiciously placed on the opposite side at the chin.It is highly unlikely that any significant nerve injury resulted from this surgery but time should ease your concerns.  Stay close to your surgeon and allow him or her to help you get through this postoperative depression you are describing
