3 weeks post Volbella in tear troughs and still bumpy - is this normal? (photos)

Hi mcscottish.  Sorry to hear the injections didn't go as you had planned.  Generally speaking, it is tricky injecting the under eye area.  Volbella does not swell as much as other fillers, so this is more than likely excessive product collection. At three weeks, you should see your injector again about injecting Hyaluronidase/Vitrase.  Best wishes,

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  By three weeks your Volbella results should have matured sufficiently that all lumps and bumps have resolved.  As volbella is a very thin HA filler it is unusual to have lumps and bumps with it and I would confirm that this is what was used.  I would then use Vitrase to dissolve the material to restore your previous appearance.   Hope this helps.

It is not usual to have swelling at 3 weeks post injection. Particularly with Volbella which is a light weight filler and doesn't cause as much swelling as something heavier. I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your injector to be assessed in person. You may even want to get a second in person opinion from another really experienced injector as well.

is a hyaluronic acid filler designed to enhance the lips. It can also be used in other areas off-label. It is difficult to make an assessment without before photographs. Lumps are normal for 2 weeks after a treatment. I instruct my patients to massage the area for 5 minutes at a time, 5 times per day, for the first 5 days after a tear trough treatment. If lumps are still apparent at that time further massage may be performed in the office or the product can be dissolved. Please

I am sorry for your problem and at this point I would tell you to have the product dissolved with Hyaluronidase.  When you have wrinkles or skin laxity, often injections in the tear trough make it look worse.  This is an expert injector area and I would consult an expert in eye injections.  Best, Dr. Green

By 3 weeks, you should not see much swelling or bumps. The best way to minimize swelling would be to meet with your provider and ask them to use hyaluronidase, which is an enzyme used to dissolve unnecessary product. We do this treatment every day and have done for years. This is absolutely not typical.
Assuming that it IS Volbella you had, the reasons for the swelling could be multiple but too much product and too superficial injection are the most common reasons, followed by swelling due to bruising.
Dissolving filler under the eye is often going to lead to more swelling so not something you want to do unless its causing you a lot of grief. I have treated a few patients with your problem from other clinics and found that best option is to wait unfortunately, unless the patient is quite distressed in which case I have used very diluted hyaluronidase in very small amounts on a weekly basis to give the tissues time to shrink back.
