I see in most situations muscle repair is recommended. I have had a child and have gained/lost weight. But I feel like I don't want the muscle repair. I feel like the removal of the skin alone would be enough for me to be happy with my looks. I'm going for improvement, nor perfect. How often is this done? Do surgeons pretty much always try to talk you into the repair? Is there a medical reason it's necessary? This in advance
Answer: Tummy Tuck without Muscle Repair I can appreciate that each patient has unique goals and expectations for their desired outcomes. In some cases, a patient may prefer to only have excess skin removed without muscle repair. It is essential to consider your specific circumstances and discuss them with your surgeon during your consultation. While muscle repair is commonly recommended in many tummy tuck procedures, it is not always necessary for every patient. The primary purpose of muscle repair during a tummy tuck is to address diastasis recti (the separation of the abdominal muscles) that can occur due to pregnancy or significant weight fluctuations. Muscle repair can help restore a firmer and flatter abdominal appearance, improve core strength, and alleviate discomfort associated with diastasis recti. If you feel that you do not require muscle repair and only want the removal of excess skin, it is essential to communicate this with your plastic surgeon. They will evaluate your abdominal muscles and overall condition to determine if a skin-only tummy tuck is appropriate for your situation. Surgeons should always respect your preferences and goals, but they may also present their professional opinion on what would best suit your individual needs and expectations. It is not uncommon for some patients to opt for a skin-only tummy tuck. The decision to undergo muscle repair depends on factors such as the degree of muscle separation, the patient's goals, and the surgeon's recommendations. There isn't always a medical reason to perform muscle repair, and in some cases, it may be a matter of personal preference. To determine the best approach for your situation, schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can assess your individual needs and help you make an informed decision about your procedure. I wish you the best of luck. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Tummy tuck with muscle repair Thanks for the question. The muscles may be separated or weakened due to pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or aging, and the surgeon may recommend repairing the muscles to create a flatter, more toned appearance. However, not all patients require muscle repair during a tummy tuck. The decision to perform muscle repair depends on several factors, including the patient's individual anatomy, the extent of muscle damage, and the desired outcome. If you have had children, your surgeon will evaluate your abdominal muscles and determine whether repair is necessary. It's important to discuss your expectations and medical history with your surgeon before the procedure to ensure that you receive the best possible outcome. Additionally, it's important to follow your surgeon's postoperative instructions carefully to promote proper healing and optimize your results. I wish all the best.

Answer: Muscle repair is not always needed Is typical of an abdominoplasty patient to have a separation of the muscles in the midline of the abdomen. This is why the repair of this, called rectus diastases, is common in tummy tuck procedures. Your surgeon may recommend this if you have a large separation of these muscles, but is not required. It may be the case he did not have a separation of these muscles and therefore your surgeon would not recommend this. If you do have a large separation of these muscles your surgeon may recommend this as it could improve your core stability to a small degree, but would not be a requirement for surgery.

Answer: Tummy tuck without muscle repair The muscle repair during a tummy tuck is done to correct the diastasis recti which can cause some of the roundness and fullness to your abdomen. It is not medically necessary to undergo the muscle repair and you can undergo a tummy tuck without the repair. I recommend seeing a board certified plastic surgeon for an in person consultation to discuss your goals for your results.

Answer: Abdomen No, the muscle repair does not have to be done. It is done to tighten the weak muscles and help make the abdomen flatter. If your muscles are good, then avoid the repair.
