Is tummy tuck recommended after appendicitis surgery?

Hi.. I had done appendicitis surgery 2 years ago. I am a foodie. I am trying to reduce weight now. I had done almost everything to reduce weight. Diet and exercise helped me to some extent. But I could not reduce my tummy. My friend suggested a tummy tuck in McLean Clinic,Toronto. But I don’t know how far that will be effective. Is there any chance of getting back the fat after tummy tuck? I am worried. Any experiences? Kindly advice.

Ideally, tummy tuck surgery is effective for removing excess skin and/or tightening the skin and underlying muscle. I would advise you to lose an excess weight prior to booking a tummy tuck consultation. Best, Dr. Nazarian

A tummy tuck after having an appendectomy should be possible. Regarding your weight, it’s always best to be at a stable one before your surgery. This allows you to have longer lasting results, because any excessive weight gain after your surgery will affect your tummy contour.

Two years out from surgery is usually not an issue for a tummy tuck as the scars aren't an issue to perform the surgery. As far as weight gain we usually reccomend getting close to your ideal weight and maintaining that weight before surgery. Most patients don't gain weight after surgery as they are so excited and motivated to maintain their results afterwards.

Thanks for this question:You should have no problems having a tummy tuck with an appendectomy scar. If this is traditional scar then its usually removed by the tummy tuck. If the appendectomy was done by keyhole surgery those scars are even less of a concern.

Far more important than deciding if a tummy tuck is for you is the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. Tummy tucks are best for removing loose skin in healthy patients.  If you are overweight it is best to lose the weight before surgery if possible.  Two years following an appendectomy it should not be a problem to have a tummy tuck.

I guess you wanted to ask if a tummy tuck can be performed safely after having had an appendectomy and also if you are a candidate for a TT.An appendectomy 2 years ago is not a contraindication to a TT.An ideal candidate for a TT is somebody who is not overweight and has loose excess skin of the abdomen. It appears that you want to loose weight and that would be best diet by following a program of healthy nutrition and proper exercise. You might benefit from the advice of a nutritionist and fitness trainer.

Thank you for the question. Yes, you should be able to undergo tummy tuck surgery after appendectomy. Generally speaking, the “ideal” patient for tummy tuck surgery is one who has completed pregnancies, is psycho socially/emotionally/financially stable, has an excellent social support system surrounding him/her, is capable of arranging enough recovery time, does not smoke and who has reached a long-term stable weight. Thanks for your question.You can safely undergo tummy tuck with history of appendectomy.You want to first make sure that you are a good candidate for tummy tuck.A good candidate for tummy tuck is a someone who 1) has excess lower abdominal skin and fat, 2) does not have excessive intra-abdominal fat, 3) has reached a stable goal weight, and 4) is medically optimized.Without direct examination and/or photo, I cannot comment if you will benefit from tummy tuck.Please consult a board-certified plastic surgeon to learn about the procedure and your candidacy for the surgery.
