Hello, I had a breast lift and augmentation done last September, as I lost a lot of breast tissue and had very saggy breasts after 3 pregnancies (one of them twins). I am thrilled with my results and love my new breasts. I am scheduled to have a tummy tuck this November (so 14 months after my breasts were done), with the same surgeon. Will a tummy tuck change the appearance of my breasts? I love them just as they are and am afraid they will be lowered during the tummy tuck.
Answer: Dissolvable vs. Permanent Sutures for Tummy Tuck Muscle Repair Thank you for your question regarding the relationship between a tummy tuck and the appearance of your breasts. Based on the details you’ve provided, it is highly unlikely that a tummy tuck will change the position or appearance of your breasts. Since you had a breast lift and augmentation 14 months ago and are thrilled with your results, your breasts should remain unaffected by the tummy tuck procedure. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, focuses solely on the lower abdomen and midsection, addressing excess skin, fat, and muscle repair. This procedure does not involve the upper torso or breast area. However, some patients may feel that their breasts appear different post-tummy tuck because the improved contour of the abdomen can enhance the overall proportions of the body, making the breasts look more prominent or differently balanced in relation to the flatter stomach. Your surgeon will be mindful of preserving the aesthetic results of your prior breast procedure. As long as the two surgeries are performed separately and your breasts are not manipulated during the tummy tuck, your breast lift and augmentation results will remain intact. If you have any specific concerns about your breast appearance after the tummy tuck, it’s always a good idea to bring them up with your surgeon during your pre-operative consultation. This will help you feel more confident and prepared as you move forward with your tummy tuck. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery! Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FACS

Answer: Tummy Tuck A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure focused on improving the appearance of the abdominal area by removing excess skin and fat, tightening the abdominal muscles, and enhancing overall contour. While a tummy tuck primarily targets the abdomen, it does not directly impact the appearance of the breasts. However, there can be an indirect relationship between body contouring procedures, like a tummy tuck, and the overall perception of body proportions. Here are a few considerations: Improved Body Proportions: The removal of excess abdominal skin and fat during a tummy tuck can enhance the overall contour of the torso. When combined with healthy lifestyle choices, this improvement in body proportions may contribute to a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Combined Procedures: Some individuals choose to undergo multiple procedures in combination, such as a mommy makeover, which may include both a tummy tuck and a breast procedure (e.g., breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction). In such cases, the overall impact on body proportions and appearance is more comprehensive. Individual Variation: The effects of a tummy tuck on the appearance of the breasts can vary among individuals. Body composition, genetics, and lifestyle factors all play a role in how changes in one area of the body may be perceived in relation to others. Consultation with a Plastic Surgeon: If you are considering a tummy tuck and have specific concerns or goals related to the appearance of your breasts, it's important to discuss these during a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. They can provide guidance on whether additional procedures may be beneficial to achieve the overall results you desire. Remember that the primary focus of a tummy tuck is to address abdominal concerns, and any impact on other areas of the body is indirect. If you have specific goals for multiple areas, a comprehensive discussion with your surgeon can help create a personalized treatment plan to address your unique needs.

Answer: Tummy Tuck Thank you for sharing your concerns. A tummy tuck primarily focuses on the abdominal area and typically does not directly affect the appearance of the breasts. However, by creating a flatter, tighter abdomen, it might enhance the overall aesthetic proportion of your torso, which could subtly change how the breasts are perceived in relation to the rest of the body. Since you're working with the same surgeon who did your breast procedure, they will have a comprehensive understanding of your anatomy and aesthetic goals. It's essential to communicate your concerns with them to ensure the best possible outcome.
