Numbness in right side of face. Will this go away on its own?

Hi! I had buccal fat removal nine months ago, and just today I am feeling some faint numbness/weakness in the right side of my face. I’m really freaking out because I didn’t think this could happen so far out post op. Is it possible this isn’t related, or if it is, why is it so delayed and will it go away on its own? Thank you

Hello, hope you are well. I do not think it's plausible the surgery you had 9 months ago and the symptoms you are feeling now are related. Generally speaking, if nerve injuries occur with surgery the symptoms are immediately apparent after local anesthesia effects have worn off (causing persistent weakness or numbness). The nerves for facial sensation are different from the nerves for facial movement. It is always appropriate to confer with your surgeon, but this could be a separate issue entirely.

That's unusual. It's possible there could still be healing that's needed from nearby nerves. You should reach out to your physician to see if anything needs to be evaluated.
