ever since I had my reduction, which was nearly 16 years ago, periodically, my areolas will get extremely dry and flaky. This has happened more than one time. I have pretty severe eczema, as well, though sometimes the areola dryness occurs absent an eczema flare. But when I'm mid-flare, the areola dryness/flakiness almost always co-occurs. But during this current flare, my areola skin seems to just be breaking down. They ooze serum, and are crusty in general. Any clues what this could be?

The best thing to do in the circumstance is to research photos of breast reduction surgeons in your areas. They should be able to provide before and after photos. Most techniques still result in very natural shape to the breast as really only implants provide for super full upper poles.
I encourage you to return to your surgeon for an evaluation. It is unusual for these symptoms to begin 6 months after surgery. An examination is needed to determine what may be causing the concern.
There is no single best method for breast reduction which is why surgeons have so many different ways of doing them. I prefer a superior medial pedicle method. The best method tends to be the one your surgeon is most comfortable with performing.
