Thalassemia trait does not automatically make every patient ineligible for a Brazilian Butt Lift, but it does mean the surgeon and anesthesia team need to review your blood work carefully. The key issues are your hemoglobin level, red blood cell indices, iron status, and whether you have any history of anemia, transfusion, clotting problems, shortness of breath, or other medical concerns. BBL and liposuction can involve blood loss, fluid shifts, and a longer anesthesia time, so it is important that your oxygen-carrying capacity is safe before elective surgery. If your hemoglobin is low or you have more than a simple trait, your surgeon may ask for clearance from your primary doctor, hematologist, or anesthesiologist before proceeding. Many patients with thalassemia trait can still be candidates if they are otherwise healthy and labs are acceptable, but the procedure may need to be conservative and performed in an accredited facility by a surgeon experienced with BBL safety. Bring your diagnosis and recent lab results to consultation, and do not assume it is safe until your medical clearance is complete.
