My surgeon insists that medpor implants are the best implant material. However this is in Canada where materials like Hydroxyapatite, Bio-Oss or PEEK for example are not practiced as frequently. I am curious to hear international surgeons experience with the variety of materials available for facial implants. Thanks

Answer: Best implant material for Cosmetic Facial Implants? Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures using dermal fillers, facial implants (cheek, chin), liposuction and/or facelifts for over 30 years. Non smiling photos of your face from the front and side would help in the evaluation. I prefer and only use facial implants that are made of silastic. In my opinion Gore tex and similarly materials can lead to an infection down the road while medpore has a huge disadvantage that it integrates into the bone (in as little as 1 month). Why would this be a disadvantage? Simply put, if the cheek implants are not the proper size, shape or properly positioned...they may not be able to be removed. I am also not a fan of the shape of the medpore cheek implants (my humble opinion). In my experience, when cheek implants are properly placed below the covering of the bone and this is combined with a multiple layered closure of the tissues...the cheek implants do not move or shift their position. Using that approach and techniques means that here's no need for an implant that becomes integrated, or placement of screws or sutures to secure the cheek implants. Women look the most feminine, youthful and attractive with heart shaped faces. Heart shaped faces have cheeks that are full and round in the front. Cheek augmentation with a dermal filler or using cheek implants for a permanent enhancement will create full, round cheeks that will feminize the entire face. Conversely, men look chiseled and handsome with angularity in the cheeks, chin and mandibular angles. Hope this helps.
