I hear a very slight crackling/crunchy sound as if something has cracked whenever I touch my nose. Is this normal?

I am 10 days post-op (revision) and whenever I apply any lotion, toner, etc or even touch my nose (VERY gently- hardly any pressure) I hear a very slight crackling/crunchy sound as if something has cracked. For the most part the sound isnt in relation to a particular spot seems to happen most places...Especially right in between my eyes. I dont remember this happening last time. Is everything ok?! Have I moved something?

The most common reason for the crackling while touching to nose is friction between the cartilage grafts and the underlying face bones, more especially a columella strut rubbing against the nasal spine of the upper jaw. Although, extremely rarely this sound could be coming from the nose bones. Regardless, you should avoid touching your nose for a while and this may get better or stop. You should also inform your surgeon of this observation and inquire about the use of a columella strut.

It could be a little air under the skin causing subcutaneous emphysema.  It is normal and nothing to worry about.  It will subside on its own.

Dear Ascend,

It is extremely common following a
rhinoplasty procedure to both feel and hear audible cracking or crackling
sounds.  In general, the sounds that you
feel and hear are the sounds of cartilage moving over more rigid structures
such as the bony skeleton of the nose. 
These cartilages moving of themselves are generally of no concern and as
long as you do not have excessive trauma to the nose, a gentle massage motion
and the cracking or crackling sounds that ensue will likely not compromise any
aesthetic component of your rhinoplasty outcome.

If there is any visual distortion
or abnormal shape or appearance of the nose, then visiting your operative
surgeon for reassurance would be the best advice.
